Kummooyeh

A living tradition of Korean swordsmanship — rooted in the Joseon Dynasty, revived for the modern world. Kummooyeh trains the body, sharpens the mind, and preserves a cultural heritage that spans centuries.

The Four Pillars

  • Geombeop — Forms: structured solo sword sequences

  • Gyeokbeop — Sparring: partner-based combat practice

  • Sebeop — Cutting: precision blade technique

  • Geommu — Sword Dance: expressive artistic performance

Sword Techniques

Kummooyeh encompasses a wide range of sword techniques: two-handed, hand switching, reverse two-hand, double reverse, single hand, reverse single hand, and twin swords.

The curriculum also includes shield work (Deungpae), the Woldo polearm, and archery — making Kummooyeh a well-rounded self-defense system as well as a cultural practice.

Our History

1996 - Founded by Grandmaster Ilseong Bouk Soo Joung as the Daehan Dobup Geomdo Association, bringing together practitioners across various schools.

Later years - Renamed the Daehan Idoryu Geomdo Association, highlighting its unique twin-sword tradition.

2009 - With new momentum from Korea's Traditional Martial Arts Promotion Act, the organization restructured as an independent sword training body — the World Kummooyeh Federation.

2015 - Formally incorporated and began promoting Kummooyeh internationally.

2023 - Grandmaster Ilseong Bouk Soo Joung visits the United States to formally recognize the start of the USA Kummooyeh Federation.

Our Mission

The World Kummooyeh Federation is dedicated to preserving and sharing Korea's sword heritage through ongoing research, demonstration, and education. We believe this tradition belongs to the world; and we're committed to passing it on through youth character development, international outreach, and a deep respect for the culture our ancestors left behind.
